Food and Addiction

Jack O'Brien and Jason "David Wong" Pargin on how food and addiction, with a few little nods on the perverse contributions by the USDA.

I just got done reading the graphic novel version of The Forgotten Man graphic novel by Amity Shlaes. It's difficult to overstate the role of rent-seeking in how calories make their way from the soil to your plate in the US, rent-seeking that is overwhelmingly driven by the concentrated interests of a few large producers and given force by their fellowship with state authorities.

Food is not euvoluntary. And how! But ponder the jagged teeth that line the transitional gains trap that is the USDA before calling for its dissolution. Yikes and double yikes.

Do you have suggestions on where we could find more examples of this phenomenon?
