Homeless Hotspots

Hmmm...homeless hotspots? Jon Stewart got all upset. Here is the video; check the comments.

MH over at Young, Hip, and Conservative makes the argument that in fact this is a euvoluntary exchange.

If he is wrong, then ANY transaction where you try to give a homeless person money in exchange for ANYTHING is not euvoluntary.

Interesting. Does being economically abject, in and of itself, render ALL exchanges involuntary?

The Philosophical Problem of "Voluntary" Exchange

A brief and rather hostile (though fair) assessment of the idea that exchange could ever be "truly" voluntary. Or, in my terms, euvoluntary.

Both posts, the one I linked and the sequel, are worth reading. The RYC's bit on coercion is also useful.

Cohen does, as the author notes, raise a serious challenge. (If you want to read and see why, here...)
